Dicom Transportation Group Acquires Orbis Logistics
Dicom adds last mile capabilities in the southern U.S.
Wind Point Partners announced today that portfolio company Dicom Transportation Group, a leading provider of business-to-business (“B2B”) expedited transportation services based in Montreal, QC, has added last mile capabilities in the southern U.S. through the acquisition of Orbis Logistics.
With a primary facility in New Orleans, Orbis Logistics is an asset-free provider of B2B last mile services. The Company utilizes a regional network of agents operating through four strategically-located transfer centers and supports large-scale customers in the industrial and retail verticals. Orbis will be aligned with the Logistics division of Dicom Transportation Group.
Wind Point acquired Dicom in February 2014 in partnership with Scott Dobak, who joined as CEO. Prior to joining Dicom, Scott served as President of RoadRunner Transportation’s LTL and TMS segments, representing a $775 million P&L.
“Orbis Logistics serves as a perfect last mile complement to Dicom’s current line haul network in the U.S., and we are excited to offer these incremental services to our existing customer base,” said Dobak. “The transaction will directly benefit both Dicom and Orbis customers as we extend our geographic scope and improve route density throughout the country.”
Konrad Salaber, a principal at Wind Point, added, “As Dicom’s second U.S.-based acquisition, Orbis Logistics serves as a natural extension of the Dicom platform. We are focused on building upon Dicom’s impressive growth trajectory, and we look forward to investing behind Orbis and expanding Dicom’s last mile capabilities.”
Dicom’s acquisition program focuses on acquiring courier, LTL and transportation providers in Quebec, Ontario and the United States. In addition, Dicom is seeking 3PL providers who manage transportation, logistics and supply chain functions for businesses in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal advisor and KPMG LLP acted as transaction advisor to Wind Point and Dicom.
