Dicom Transportation Group Acquires Extra Express
Dicom establishes final mile presence in the Western United States
Wind Point Partners (“Wind Point”) announced today that portfolio company Dicom Transportation Group, a leading provider of business-to-business (“B2B”) expedited transportation services based in Montreal, QC, has added last mile capabilities in the Western United States through the acquisition of Extra Express.
Extra Express (“Extra”) is an asset-light provider of B2B last mile services based in Los Angeles, CA. Over the past 30 years, Extra has grown organically and via acquisition to become one of the largest independent last mile service providers on the West Coast, serving a customer base that ranges from small and medium-sized businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Extra leverages a large network of delivery providers and four strategically located facilities to provide its customers with best-in-class logistics services across California, Nevada and Colorado. Extra Express will be aligned with the Express division of Dicom Transportation Group.
Wind Point acquired Dicom in February 2014 in partnership with Scott Dobak, who joined as CEO. Prior to joining Dicom, Scott served as President of RoadRunner Transportation’s LTL and TMS segments, representing a $775 million P&L.
“The transaction provides Dicom with significant final mile density in California and the Western United States,” said Dobak. “Extra Express is an exceptionally well-run business, with a proven ability to service greenfield projects for existing customers. We look forward to adding their highest-standard services to our quickly-expanding network.”
Konrad Salaber, a principal at Wind Point, added, “Offering Dicom’s complete suite of services across all of North America is a core component of our investment strategy. Extra Express, which services a wide array of Fortune 500 customers in Dicom’s core verticals, is an exceptional fit for our company and our network.”
Dicom’s acquisition program focuses on acquiring courier, LTL and transportation providers in Quebec, Ontario and the United States. In addition, Dicom is seeking 3PL providers who manage transportation, logistics and supply chain functions for businesses in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
Kirkland & Ellis LLP served as legal advisor and KPMG LLP acted as transaction advisor to Wind Point and Dicom.
